Malle. 2024, Berlin. Eco-sponge, text on paper, painting body, 24 x 30 x 3 cm. An eco-sponge made of cellulose and coconut fibers is stuck in the middle of the open box above the text “I always take my eco-sponge with me to Malle!” The object shows the illusion of indulgence. As if avoiding the purchase of new kitchen sponges could compensate for the CO2 emissions of the flight. The great burden on the climate is displaced by the flight on vacation.

Transformation (2022)
Object, wood, waste cardboard, solar panel from advertising, paint, glue, plastic

An extinguished wood fire, oil barrel and a solar panel are arranged rising on a staircase. The work presents the phases of man’s energy extraction from nature. Gone are the pre-industrial days with the open wood fire on the left. We are in the middle of the fossil phase and need to enter renewable energy production on the right because of the acute climate crisis. Through our use of fossil fuels, we have caused a climate crisis that threatens humanity. The transformation consists of quickly replacing fossil energy production with renewable energy.

Dentures

Moving object, 2012, Berlin, 20 X 20 X 13 cm, dentures, motor, mechanics, 30 LEDs, fabric, paint, electronics, wooden housing, 230V connection. An artificial denture, whose teeth glow brightly from the inside, rattles when it moves. The white teeth are meant to help compete in the beauty market. The work gives a glimpse into the future, where it will be considered chic to show glowing teeth. Nature is supposed to be helped in this way. The profane chattering, throws the viewer back to the current earthly, where you eat and sometimes have to keep your mouth shut.

The moving object produces rain sound driven by motor and controlled by chance.

It is our machines that simulate and destroy nature. Allure with sound and power over nature. Nature has its own dynamics in chance, which we can no longer influence.

Object: Factor Five. 2009, Berlin, 43 x 31 x 4 cm, eight switch buttons from the 60s. The “Factor Five” formula embodies the concept of a future-proof, environmentally compatible economic policy. If we make five times better use of raw materials than we do now, we can achieve a significant increase in prosperity and quality of life.

If the world is managing the Corona crisis, I ask why it has come to us. It has common causes with the climate crisis, e.g. we fly too much. Wild animals, livestock and animal products are transported around the globe. Another reason is factory farming, e.g.  swine flu, bird flu, or Spanish flu. We humans are claiming more and more wildlife habitats for ourselves. Environmental degradation affects natural species communities. As a result, contact between wildlife, livestock and humans is increasing. The Corona crisis shows that humanity has reached a turning point, it must preserve the remaining natural areas. Otherwise the pandemics will repeat themselves.

The response of the states shows that with strong crisis action, containment of the Corona crisis is possible. This is exactly what we need for the climate crisis. The viewer is an actor at the counter who can influence both crises.

A vision of the present. The vision became real in 2021, unfortunately.

Flood

Politicians seem concerned, speak of insight.
You manage disaster politically.
But what measures are those responsible taking more seriously and more consistently against the cause of the climate crisis?
What else has to happen for us to take the wake-up call seriously, for politics to wake up, for the voters to go on like this?
We do not take the risks seriously and cling to our fossil fuel habits.
These deluges will be repeated and even stronger, here and becausewide. The energy turnaround with the move away from fossil fuels to renewables must come much faster.

Stone, tin, e-scrap and plastic from short-life toaster

The lower stone represents the time before mankind. Humanity shows up in the flattened layer of tin, plastic, electronic junk from an inferior toaster that only worked for a short time. The upper stone represents the geological development of the planet earth, which passed over the phase of mankind. What remains of man are his layers of recyclables.
